A young boy, who has spent a significant portion of his life in medical care, is ready to enjoy his inaugural Christmas at home following his recent release from the hospital.

Nineteen-month-old Bertie Melly faced serious health challenges from the moment he was born prematurely at 24 weeks, weighing a mere 1 pound 10 ounces (0.7 kilograms).

In addition to requiring respiratory assistance, he was diagnosed with a critical condition affecting his intestines. His medical journey included five surgeries, with the first occurring when he was just ten days old.
