Hungary’s Orban Challenges EU Allies with New Meeting with Putin in Moscow

Hungary's Orban defies EU partners and meets Putin again in Moscow

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, has once again met with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, just days before Russia engages in discussions regarding a US initiative aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

Orban is regarded as one of Putin’s closest European allies, consistently provoking the ire of his Nato and EU counterparts by undermining collective action against Russia.

“We recognize your balanced perspective on the current situation in Ukraine,” Putin expressed to Orban in comments broadcast by Russian state television.

Additionally, Putin expressed gratitude to the Hungarian leader for suggesting Budapest as a potential location for a summit between Russia and the United States, involving President Trump.

“Trump pointed out: ‘We maintain good relations with Hungary, you have a good rapport with Viktor, and so do I, hence I propose this option.’ Naturally, we agreed with joy,” Putin stated.
