Starmer Vows to Investigate Budget Leak Origins

The Prime Minister has pledged to thoroughly investigate the source of damaging leaks regarding the Budget and alleged dissent within his Cabinet.

Recently, Chancellor Rachel Reeves addressed MPs, asserting that unauthorized leaks hinting at her abandonment of income tax hikes were being looked into.

During a session with the Liaison Committee, which comprises chairs from all select committees, Sir Keir Starmer expressed skepticism about the leaks originating from his own team.

Parliamentary inquiries directed at the Prime Minister also highlighted issues concerning public life standards, including whether ministers were holding themselves accountable by responding to questions in Parliament.

In recent weeks, the government has endured a series of embarrassing revelations, notably about Health Secretary Wes Streeting’s alleged coup attempt to take over leadership at the beginning of November.

This was swiftly followed by media reports suggesting a potential reversal on income tax decisions and the unusual early release of the Office for Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) analysis of Reeves’ Budget prior to its official announcement in the Commons.
